AAA Hawaii: Local Prices Fall For The Week, But Could Rise Soon Due To Middle East Escalations

HI WEEKEND GAS WATCH THUMBNAIL

Hawaii gas prices remained stable or dropped for the week throughout the state, but rose in the past day in some areas as global oil market uncertainty continues to influence fuel costs, according to AAA Hawaii’s Weekend Gas Watch.

Today’s statewide average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Hawaii is $5.46, down two cents from last week, and 99 cents higher than this time last year. Hawaii’s highest recorded average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $5.67, set on April 19, 2026.

Since late May, gas prices have mostly trended downward nationwide. However, prices are now beginning to rise as uncertainty surrounding the ceasefire between the United States and Iran continues to affect global oil markets. The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.84, up five cents from yesterday but up only one cent from last week, down 32 cents from a month ago, and 68 cents higher than this time last year. Nationally, the highest recorded average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $5.01, set on June 14, 2022.

At $5.46 per gallon, Hawaii continues to have the highest average gasoline price in the nation, followed by California at $5.38 per gallon. Washington ranks third at $4.99 per gallon.

In Honolulu, the average price for regular unleaded is $5.42 per gallon, unchanged from last week, 11 cents lower than a month ago, and $1.03 higher than a year ago. Drivers in Hilo are paying an average of $5.55 per gallon, down one cent from last week, seven cents lower than a month ago, and 90 cents higher than a year ago. The average price in Kahului is $5.44 per gallon, down 14 cents from yesterday, down 16 cents from a month ago, and 92 cents higher than a year ago. In Lihue, drivers are paying an average of $5.83 per gallon, down two cents from last week, down eight cents from a month ago, and 80 cents higher than a year ago.

"After six consecutive weeks of declining gas prices nationwide, we're beginning to see upward pressure return at the pump," said AAA Hawaii spokesperson Kandace Redd. "While Hawaii drivers have benefited from lower prices in recent weeks, uncertainty in global oil markets could lead to higher fuel costs in the days ahead. Gasoline prices typically follow crude oil prices, and with crude oil prices rising again, drivers may continue to see higher costs at the pump. Motorists can help offset those increases by comparing gas prices, shopping for fuel discounts, combining errands, keeping up with regular vehicle maintenance, and avoiding aggressive driving to improve fuel efficiency."

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on July 9, averages are:
