Hawaii gas prices ended 2019 as they had spent most of the year – with very little movement in most areas, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.66 a gallon, which is the same as last week, also unchanged from a month ago and 30 cents higher than on this date a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
The 2019 annual average gas price for the state is $3.56 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is lower than the 2018 average annual price of $3.65.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.53, which is one cent lower last week, one cent lower than a month ago and 30 cents higher than on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.76, which is three cents lower than a week ago, unchanged from this date last month and 38 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $3.83, which is the same as last Thursday, also the same as a month ago and eight cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.89, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, one cent higher than last month and 32 cents higher than a year ago today.
“For only the second time in 20 years, Hawaii is not the state with the most expensive annual average gas price – California’s annual average price of $3.72 was 16 cents higher than Hawaii’s average,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
